* The Langley Saxons opened their season with a 3-0 victory over the visiting Bishop O’Connell Knights on Friday night. Senior right-hander Jimmy Saris tossed a two-hit shutout for the Saxons as he fanned 16 and walked only one. Langley had eight hits. Saris and senior centerfielder Chuck Eller each had two hits for Langley. Nick Zahra, Alex Dadisman, Tommy Tysse and John Dammer had Langley’s other hits.

Saris will pitch at Duke University next spring and Eller will attend Wofford College in the Southern Conference, where he will play baseball. Saris and Eller are expected to be two of the top players in the Liberty District and Northern Region this spring.

This week Langley is playing games in Arizona on the team’s spring break trip.
