* The Langley Saxons (19-4) lost to W.T. Woodson, 6-5, in a slopily played championship game of the Liberty District tournament. Woodson won despite making seven errors. The team also walked four batters, and threw two wild pitches. Langley made two errors and walked four. Woodson had 12 hits and Langley six.

Jimmy Saris had two hits for Langley and drove in a run. Nick Zahra and Kyle Fraser both had an RBI hits for Langley, which stranded 10 base runners. Woodson left 12 stranded.

Langley had the potentially tying run on third base when the game ended with a strikeout.

“We didn’t play our best game and they helped us some,” Langley coach Jeff Ferrell said. “But at the end we were in the situation we wanted, with the runner on third.”

In first-round Northern Region tournament game, Langley defeated defending champion Westfield, 7-1, as Saris got the win and Fraser and Alex Dadisman (three-run shot) homered for Langley. Tommy Tysse had a hit and drove in two runs for Langley and Danny Brown was 2 for 3. Saris pitched all seven innings. He allowed eight hits, struck out six and did not walk a batter.
