It wasn’t necessarily by design, but the pitching arrangement that has recently evolved for the Langley Saxons has been very effective.

BASEBALL

With a 4-2 win over the host W.T. Woodson Cavaliers on Friday night, the Langley Saxons (16-3, 11-2) tied Woodson for first place in the Liberty District with one game to play. Langley began this week with a seven-game winning streak. It’s last loss was to Woodson.

In Friday’s game, junior right-hander Bryce Morrison (6-0, 2.93) pitched six innings of three-hit ball to get the win. Jimmy Saris had three hits for Langley and drove in two runs. Danny Brown singled home another run for Langley. Saris (4-0) pitched the seventh inning to earn his fifth save of the season.

In Langley’s 5-4 win over Madison last week, Morrison was the winning pitcher and Saris earned the save. Brown was 3 for 4 and Nick Zahra was 2 for 3. Madison’s Rich Conlon, Joe Canova and Alex Andrews had two hits each. Madison had 11 hits.

In Langley’s 10-0 victory over Marshall, Brendan Dibari (2-1) pitched four innings to get the win. Chuck Eller was 3 for 3 with two RBI for Langley, Brown was 3 for 3, Saris was 2 for 4 with a homer and three RBI, John Dammer was 3 for 4 with two RBI, and Tommy Tysse was 3 for 3 with a homer.

In Madison’s 9-5 win over Lee, Jason Farley scattered five hits and pitched a complete game to get the win. Conlon had a key two-run single for Madison, and Mark Riffee, David McIntyre, Joe Canova and Alex Andrews had key hits.

Madison (9-9, 7-6) defeated Marshall, 4-1, in another game last week. Mark Riffee pitched five innings to get the win and Andrews had two hits. Riffee and Brian Eck combined to pitch a three-hitter. Marshall fell to 4-13 and 1-12 with its 10th straight loss
