* The Langley Saxons (13-7, 8-6) won their final regular season game by blanking South Lakes, 6-0, as Russell Blankinship (6-1, 1.79 ERA) fanned eight and threw a four-hitter. He did not walk a batter. Chuck Eller and Alex Dadisman had two hits each. Langley is the fourth seed in the Liberty District tournament.

In the span of two seasons, the McLean Highlanders improved from worst to third in the Liberty District. In 2002, McLean finished 0-12 in regular season league play. This spring the Highlanders (11-8) were 8-6 and will be the third seed in this week’s district tournament.

McLean clinched that third spot by defeating Marshall, 8-0, in its final regular season game. McLean and the Langley Saxons (13-7) were tied with 8-6 district records, but the Highlanders won the tie-breaker because it swept Langley during the regular season.

Shane Mills (4-0) got the win against Marshall, Billy Corey had three hits and two RBI and Andrew Burton had two hits and two RBI.

 

* The Oakton Cougars (16-4, 7-3) enter the postseason on a five-game winning streak. The Cougars defeated Chantilly, 6-5, Centreville, 12-0, and Jefferson, 10-0, in Concorde District games last week. Junior left-hander Evan Frederickson (4-4) pitched a five-inning no-hitter against Centreville. The last 12 outs he recorded were by virtue of strikeouts. He walked two batters. With the bat Frederickson had three hits, including a homer, and four RBI. Jared Kubin and Kevin Miyamoto also homered.

Preston Madden was 4 for 4 against Chantilly and had two hits against Jefferson. Frederickson homered in that game as well. Michael Colin and Bryan Kidwell were the winning pitchers in those games.
